The possibility of renewal.

I purchased a large canvas, the largest I’ve ever bought, in 2017. I ambitiously brought the canvas home and started painting a few months later. To my surprise, the large canvas required more time and paint than I anticipated. The canvas also demanded me to use various positions to reach all corners while painting. I found myself resentfully coming back to the painting and rushing the process. The outcome was that I did not like the image in the end.

So, recently after about 1+ years I came back to it with some curiosity, a light heart, and non-judgement. I had no plan or expectations other than to redo some parts to see what could be possible. Without rushing I was vastly efficient with my paint application. Over the course of 2 days I was able to amplify pigment in different parts of the picture, omit previous parts and add a lot of different character. I mostly used the opportunity to have fun with it.

The learning in this for me was that there is always another chance for things to improve. In life, things don’t always turn out the way we want. We sometimes get stuck and don’t like our situation or circumstance. Similarly, with my lessons in painting, there is always a possibility for renewal.
